Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) and GMV partner with Way Sine to deploy Solar Powered LED Real-time information signs through Houston TX

Since 2023, Metro riders have witnessed a significant technological upgrade across the Houston public transit system with widespread deployment of our advanced, solar-powered LED signs designed to provide essential, real-time next bus arrival information directly at your stop.

This ambitious initiative is the result of a strong partnership with our industry colleagues at GMV and represents a major step forward in enhancing the rider experience, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring greater accessibility across the entire transit network.

Project Scope and Technology

This has not been a small pilot program—it is a comprehensive, seven-year project  where Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) has committed to installing a network of up to 3,000 digital signs throughout the service area. These new displays will be strategically placed at:

• Bus Stops: Offering immediate, hyper-local arrival predictions where they are needed most.

• Transit Centers: Providing a centralized view of multiple route arrivals and connections.

The core function of these signs is to deliver dynamic, real-time service updates and next bus arrival information, by utilizing GTFS data and predictive algorithms, the system minimizes uncertainty for riders, allowing them to plan their journeys with confidence and accuracy.

A critical feature of this deployment is METRO’s unwavering commitment to accessibility. Recognizing the needs of all riders, the new signs are built to be fully ADA-compliant, offering information in dual formats:
