In collaboration with Tolar Manufacturing Company, Way Sine is proud to be part of the team providing Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) with new signature custom bus shelters. These precision-engineered structures are specifically built for the Texas environment and come equipped with solar-powered real-time arrival displays to keep passengers informed, as well as solar-powered LED lighting.

These enhancements align with research from the American Public Transportation Association. Their study highlights how public transit investment generates significant taxpayer value by creating jobs, boosting tax revenue, and improving access to health services and employment, all while easing traffic congestion and reducing travel expenses for households.

“DART riders deserve bus stop amenity infrastructure that works as hard as they do, and that’s exactly what this program delivers,” said Patrick Merrick, executive VP at Tolar Manufacturing Company. “From the solar-powered lighting to the remote monitoring capabilities built into the shelters, we’ve engineered a system that performs around the clock and gives DART the tools to keep it that way. Partnering with Way Sine, Urban Solar, and L.A.W. Contracting to execute DART’s vision allows us to bring together best-in-class expertise at every layer of this project, and we’re proud to see that come together at this scale.”

During the design phase, DART conducted a survey of over 4,200 passengers. The results showed that more than 90% of those surveyed viewed the new shelter design as a significant upgrade compared to current stops.

By integrating Tolar's infrastructure with Way Sine’s Real-Time Information System (RTIS), passengers receive live bus arrival updates exactly when they need them.

These systems are linked to a centralized remote monitoring platform, offering DART operations personnel comprehensive visibility across the entire network. The platform provides automated alerts if a solar component or real-time display requires maintenance, ensuring that technicians can respond swiftly to prevent service disruptions for riders.

It is always a privilege to collaborate with exceptional partners like Tolar Manufacturing Company, Urban Solar, and L.A.W. Contracting. Together, we are dedicated to delivering transit solutions that consistently surpass our clients' expectations, and improve the rider experience.
